<img src="http://www.pocketpcdn.com/images/news/2006-04-05.gif" align="left">Microsoft has just released the standalone version of the Windows Mobile 5 device emulator. This is great news because it includes the latest images and is a real ARM emulator, so you can actually use it in a standalone scenario (no Visual Studio attached) to demo your applications.

This release comes along with the OS Image for Windows Mobile 5.0 w/ Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP). Using this OS image with the emulator will allow you to demonstrate and play with technologies like Direct Push. Better still, you can now include the emulator and OS images in your online training materials.

Is there a way to get other images to run on this new emulator version? I've attempted to load the .bins from the 2003 SDK. Microsoft lists other images available at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/down ... fault.aspx

I"m specifically looking for just .bin for 2003 and 2003 SE that will work on this new device emulator 1.0 without the need for VS2005.

I believe you are out of luck... The older images will not work in the new emulator because this is a real ARM emulator, not an x86 one.

Well poking around on the net, I found out some more information.

The Device Emulator Community Tech Preview (CTP) version that was released about a year ago, was released with WM2003SE image. The file was located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Device Emulator Preview\PPC_2003_SE\PPC_2003_SE_WWE_ARMv4.bin" for a default install.

The install for that Device Emulator was available (apparently up until a few days ago) as the file DeviceEmulator050419.msi which was 27mb.

The website to download that file from was msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/windowsmobile/downloads/emulatorpreview/default.aspx

which now redirects to the one in OP.

The current page to download the 1.0 version, has links for 2003 SE but it links to the same page to download the wm5.0 version, so either they made a mistake or they are not releasing the 2003 SE images right away.

Regardless, the standalone emulator is a big help. I just wished I had snagged the CTP version now to have a copy of the 2003SE .bin that was ARMv4 and not x86.

Hi,

I tried to install "Windows Mobile 5.0 with MSFP Emulator Images for Device Emulator 1.0" from this URL (http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/downloads/Emulator/default.aspx) but I don't see them in Emulator Manager in VS2005 Dev Ed : it seems only for the standalone emulator and not for VS2005

Where to find and how to install the "Windows Mobile 5.0 with MSFP Emulator Images" in VS2005 Dev Ed. ?

TIA,
